Day 1,070
Walking home from the dentist
Our return trip to Cusco for Tom's dental treatment has been long, slow and painful for him, too many lazy days for me. Last night Tom finally had his stitches removed. He had been hoping he would be given the all clear to hit the road again tomorrow, but no, he's back on Tuesday to see how the wound is healing. Time on our visa is running out, neither of us was happy with this news.
We set off towards our apartment but our way was blocked. About 2,000 children and adults were blocking our way. They were colourfully dressed, in groups, each with their own band, own style of music and dancing. Crowds stood watching the proceedings. Every now and again a spontaneous round of applause started. Then we had fireworks, it was bright, cheerful, joyous, and just what we needed.
We know that from the 31 May there will be weeks of celebrations in Cusco, we knew we would miss them, but clearly the build up has started. We have a saying, the fickle finger of fate, and clearly it is working hard to cheer us up!
