Day 1,106

Downhill to La Paz

So after a fitful night's sleep it was decision time. To taxi or to ride? Tom's bottom bracket had not repaired itself overnight. I knew I would end up walking as we neared the top. Did we seriously want to put ourselves in danger of a bike breakdown? Four more days of hard work climbing up and up. We decided to be sensible and headed off to the taxi rank. In a country with no train network and little car ownership, to get anywhere coaches, taxis or buses are the only option. The first person we asked said yes, he could take us. Within a few minutes he had carefully loaded our bags and bikes onto his car's roof, and in the company of 5 fellow travellers we were off. In just 3 hours, for the princely sum of about £25, he dropped us off. 15 miles outside of La Paz, but it was where we wanted to be. Those 15 miles were all on tarmac, well nearly, and it was downhill all the way.

La Paz, here we come!
