Day 124
Granito
We had a few uneventful days cycling, on old Roman roads, through mainly farmland with the odd bull ring and field of bulls to add a little variety. Weary legs made us decide to have a day off in Salamanca. The whole city feels like one big outdoor art gallery. We strolled around, ate some tapas, people-watched, and decided we would visit the Cathedral. Well actually two, as the Old Cathedral, started in the 12th century, is joined to the new one from the 15th century. Us Yorkshire folk like a bargain, two for the price of one, excellent!
The following day our route took us back through the old town giving us one last look at this magnificent city, one of the oldest university cities in the world. We really didn’t want to leave. Onwards Muttons!
Safe cycle paths took us away from the city and we gradually started to climb over old Roman roads. We reached 1,107 metres high at one point, passed the remains of a Roman villa, as the countryside became greener and started to remind us of home.
We were heading for the village of Los Santos and the granite park, Rollo Canalizo. The area is simply one massive bed of granite. Someone with vision and soul has created lots of artwork, from, well granite. We sat on a granite bench at a granite table and ate our tea, as we watched the sun set over Granite-henge. Fabulous.
