Day 26
Tyre rolling
After being so tired the night before we woke raring to go! The hills gradually got steeper and longer, but we powered on. Komoot took us on a rough off road section, no problem!
We dropped down into the village and watched what was clearly a strange local past time, tractor tyre rolling. During the entire time we were there an old chap rolled tyre after tyre through the village. He didn’t say a word and we didn’t have the energy to ask!
Then the roads went up, and up, we knew they would but oh dear, could we do this? After a water refuelling and food shop, we turned into a road so steep there was nothing for it too push. Fortunately after a few hundred yards we were able to get back on the bikes. We had a target, not a camp site but a wild camping spot. Tom had two in mind, the first one was so good, a small car park in the middle of the forest, but no camping allowed. The second meant another big climb. We would be at the top of a seven-and-a-half-mile descent, but first we had to get there. We needed more water so for the first time on this trip the water filter came out!
The road was wider than the z roads we normally ride on, and though we climbed for what felt like forever it was never too steep. Then finally we were at the top. We were confronted with a view so stunning and majestic it would have taken our breath away if we had any left. The major mountains of Wales lay in front of us. We simply stood speechless, Carlsberg had provided us with a wild camp spot that we doubt may ever be beaten. We didn’t even pitch the tent, but slept under the stars. Tomorrow we had 7.5 miles of downhill, it doesn’t get much better than this!
