Day 267

Emerald Coast

We have had a couple of shorter riding days. Able to relax with Warmshowers hosts, Marty then Tyler. The area is stunningly beautiful with white quartz-sand beaches and crystal-clear sea all the way. When we crossed a bay on a bridge the water was a stunning green, no wonder this area is called the Emerald Coast, the colours were hard to believe. Apparently, it’s caused by the healthy supply of microscopic plankton, it produces chlorophyll which gives off the beautiful green colour when the sun's rays hit the water. Now in ROI I’m sure there would be a tale that St Patrick did it, whatever the cause it’s breath-taking.

We saw our second crazy bike artwork of the trip, the first was back in ROI, created by our Warmshowers host, Tom O’Neil, so it was fitting that it was on this Emerald coast we saw our second one at Big Daddy’s bike shop in the great little town of Blue Mountain. It was so stunning there we decided to explore and found a fantastic place to swim. The air was chilly but the sea was warm, we really didn’t want to get back on the bikes! Heck, we almost felt as if we were on holiday!
