Day 358

A surfing beaver

After a lovely chat with Shannon and Daryl we headed off in the sunshine. We were heading for Chain Lakes, another campsite, and hoped for a better reception. The road, Route 22, was said to be beautiful with little traffic. It was certainly very pretty but unfortunately rather busy, so we were very happy to arrive at Chain Lakes. Unfortunately, we found another deserted office, no idea of what to pay, where we could pitch our tent and no Wi-Fi. With the assistance of some very helpful ground staff, we managed to book a pitch and as we had met a fellow cyclist, Mike the Bike, we split the $30 fee. Again, no facilities but at least we had running water this time! We spent a wonderful evening with Mike, walking by the lake, even joining in with his yoga session.

Mike was heading in the opposite direction to us, so goodbyes said we returned to Route 22 and headed towards our Warmshowers hosts, Murray and Ingrid. The route went from pretty to beautiful, the road was quieter and we started to relax. When we arrived, we were greeted with great enthusiasm by their 4 dogs. Sticks thrown, tummies tickled, we finally headed for a shower.

We were instantly in a relaxed happy mood, we felt as if we were staying with old friends. After dinner Ingrid took us for a drive into the hills, we saw a beaver surfing a waterfall, and even had the opportunity to visit a ranch and saw Sam, their son, and a friend practice their skills with a rope ready for work on the ranch this weekend. Back home we climbed to the top of the amazing treehouse Murray built, and then chatted late into the night. Warmshowers is awesome!
