Day 44

Psychedelic sheep

Final goodbyes to Ollie and Laura and on the road again. We had made plans to join Jackie H's mum Annette at a campsite on our way to Birkenhead. Annette is always very interested in our adventures and has been a support on some too. She kept me fed and watered whilst I did the Lyke Wake Walk and even more impressive washed endless mucky cycling kit when we did Lejog to celebrate Jackie’s 50th.  She drove us home too! So it felt only right we spend sometime with her. She is part of an excellent group of single people, the New Horizons, who all own campers or caravans, rather than be alone they have several trips away each year, so there is always someone to natter too, go for a walk with, visit places of interest including the pub with! We joined them all for Annette’s treat of fish and chips and the luxury of several cuppas in Annette’s campers. Thanks to all the New Horizons!

The ride to them started with quite a few miles on A roads, not our favourite place, it was fine though, then out into the countryside and our preferred Z roads. We stopped at the remains of Moreton Corbett castle, made a cuppa and soaked up the history whilst sat in the sun. Tom enjoyed himself taking many photos whilst I nattered to dog walkers and read my book, result! I popped into the church and saw the Corbet's family tree, they can trace their line back to 1066 and beyond. They still own the castle to this day.

The final few miles took us over an airfield, which is still used, I think. No planes stopped us, and then the route got stranger, Komoot said straight ahead but the way was barred by a gate, no problem though as it simply opened automatically as we approached. Now if we could only persuade Sustrans to install these! A few minutes later we were at the campsite and getting ready for our fish and chip supper!
