Day 575
Rompe Huesos
Today’s ride would probably have soon been forgotten but for a chance encounter. As we rode along, two pickup trucks loaded with mountain bikes passed us, horns beeping, windows wound down and waves and shouts of encouragement. It made us smile and lifted our mood on what was an uninspiring ride. A few miles later Arq, one of the mountain bikers who had recently passed us, waved to us and we pulled to a stop. We were soon introduced to the family and the mountain bike team, ‘Rompe Huesos XC’, or ‘Broken Bones’, in honour of their early attempts at mountain biking. They were keen to treat us to lunch, unfortunately we had just eaten but joined them all for a drink and a chat. Arq’s whole family raced, and were buzzing after today’s practice getting ready for next weekend’s big race. When we left Arq wanted to give Tom his race kit but at 6’4” not much fits Tom, so I was the lucky recipient of his daughter’s race jacket and we both got a team buff. Lovely people living life to the full and we are so happy to have met them. Go Team Rompe Huesos XC!
