Day 727
Cobblers
Tom and I are making the most of our unexpected break in the UK. Today we popped along to the awesome Northampton Museum, and were blown away! With the aid of Lego we took a trip around the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, plus the Hoover Dam, the Space Station, Old London Bridge and Easter Island to name just a few. The exhibits were brilliantly constructed and with just a few words explained all about them.
We didn’t stop there, but continued on to Shoe Museum. Northampton has been the home to world-class shoe manufacturing for hundreds of years. Cromwell’s New Model Army marched in shoes from Northampton and though many of the factories closed due to mass production of imported models, three factories still remain and King Charles III is a customer! The museum took us through the history and development of the shoe. My favourite exhibits were shoes that their owners had donated to the museum with a photo and a brief description of what the shoes had meant to them, and then the cabinets that were full of what I can only describe as shoe porn, my god, those Jimmy Choos and Laboutians were gorgeous!
The whole building was stunningly laid out, with art galleries and rooms showing the development of Northampton from when Britain was still attached to mainland Europe to the present day. We spent hours wandering around and it’s replaced the Mola Museum in Panama as my favourite museum of all time!
Other days we have been enjoying the sunshine and walking the streets and sights of Northampton, including one of the three surviving Queen Eleanor Crosses, Abington Park and Delapré Abbey. But, when next week comes, its back to work for Tom and to the hospital for me for my first eye operation!
