Day 8
Blickling Hall
It was rather hard to say goodbye to the Brickyard, but Blickling was calling us.
We rode through the grounds of Holkham Hall, being cyclists we clearly ignored the closed road sign, though this time it really meant it as our way was barred by a very majestic but locked gate. A quick knock at the Gamekeeper's cottage, yep, it was that sort of gate, and we were off, miles of off-road tracks, followed by quiet country lanes.
We saw a sign for raw milk, it was clearly a day that would recreate my childhood, as I’d last had that when I was 7. The raw milk shop was outside Bingham Priory, built by William the Conqueror's nephew... now that was old.
After a few more miles the route took us into the grounds of Blickling. It’s a beautiful house with a lot of history, but for me it's part of my childhood. I was happy there then and I was happy now. We had coffee and cakes, then decided on a visit to the grounds. As it was late in the day, we weren't charged. Blicking was weaving its magic again. If you get chance, on a sunny day go sit in its grounds and enjoy this spectacular place. We did.
But time was passing so it was off to Top Farm, a fabulous owner who took care to find us a great pitch, a hot shower... we were tourers back on the road.
