Day 964
The best laid plans…
The last few days cycling have been tough, both physically and emotionally, and so a few days rest were definitely needed. As usual though, it never quite works out that way. Tom edited all his photos and created two films, a massive amount of work, but he could relax knowing that everything was bang up to date. I wrote some blogs, cleaned and checked over the bikes, luggage, and all the kit. Then we had a day just resting. We met up with Helene and confirmed our plans to ride the next stage together.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling good, I couldn’t shake off my exhaustion. Back in the UK I had suffered for many years with attacks of chronic fatigue, the word tired doesn’t in anyway cover what it feels like, I simply need complete rest and no stress. This was the first time in the trip that I knew I was close to an attack and the only thing to do is rest.
The evening before we set off it was clear to Tom and I that I simply couldn’t do it. We talked it through and decided Tom would ride the loop with Helene and I would meet them in a week’s time just down the road. Only this is Debs and Tom we’re talking about. We always stay together. Loves not-so-young dream. By morning Tom decided he couldn’t do a whole week without me! Someone pass my sisters a sick bag! Anyway we hatched another plan, he’d ride with Helene for a couple of days, do a scramble up to Laguna 69, take the difficult route back across another mountain, then return to me. I had enough food in so I didn’t need to leave the apartment and went to bed. Rest, rest, rest.
Waving Tom off though was a weird feeling, but I really needed him to have fun.
