Day 10
Warmshowers Wonder
Today our wonderful trip got even better. If Carlsberg did long distance cycle holidays, well we were on it!
I had cheekily messaged a Warmshowers host late the night before, and at 6am they replied saying they could host us that night. If the forecast rain arrived we would stay dry.
After a battle through a rutted byway, the route was quiet and easy going. We stopped for a stretch and spotted eagles flying above us. We were so stunned we just enjoyed the moment. A mile or so later we clearly were still in eagle territory. They swooped so low that I felt I could touch them.
Buzzing with excitement the last few miles flew by and we arrived in good time with our hosts for the night Sue, Rick and Murphy the dog. Maisie had competition for favourite dog of the trip!
This was to be another first, sleeping under a thatched roof. The house was surrounded by four acres of stunning gardens. We had a stroll whilst Sue cooked our evening meal.
Over dinner, we chatted and shared our stories, Sue and Rick soon felt like old friends. The boys talked gadgets, cameras, drones etc. By the end of the evening Rick had ordered a drone for himself. Sue and I discussed bike comfort and hopefully I was able to improve things for Sue on her bike.
It was a late night, but as we had found before when staying with Jane, Warmshowers hosts are awesome people and we felt so welcome and at home.
Another friendship formed.
