Day 133

Don’t upset the chameleons

The noise of traffic woke us. Our camp site was positioned between three main roads, but we had been so tired we just couldn’t go any further last night.

The forecast was not good. A stronger head wind than yesterday and rain. So, we were not expecting to enjoy today’s ride. At least we knew we had a dry shelter tonight, as we were heading to a Warmshowers hosts, Richard. He usually offers space to pitch your tent under his orange trees to give shelter from the sun! Due to the forecast had already offered us his garage! We were very happy.

The day just seemed easier right from the start and five miles in we realised the wind, though present, was not as bad due to the hills providing shelter. They also made for a more varied landscape which made such a difference. We had lunch in a park in Jerez, but as we set off the rain arrived. It was persistent but light. We were warm. There wasn’t a cotton field in sight! We felt better, we were even reaching the giddy speed of 10 miles an hour, twice as fast as yesterday’s crawl.

Then we had a treat. We headed off into a forest, a protected area for the chameleon. The path was dry red earth, the trees gave shelter from the wind and rain. We didn’t spot any chameleons but we just happy to share their home.

Shortly afterwards we arrived at Richard’s. A shower and a cuppa. Then a beer, wine, food, great conversation and a relaxing night’s sleep under the solid roof of Richard’s garage, bliss!
