Day 216

Surrey in a hurry

Refreshed after our night in a hotel, we set off for just 45 miles to my sister in law Mel's. In theory it should have been a lovely ride through the Surrey hills, but the reality for the first 30+ miles was mile after mile of busy roads with impatient drivers. We were not surprised to see a car bonnet  embedded into a tree where sometime had completely misread the road and gone straight ahead at a T-junction. A short while later we arrived at the scene of an accident. Not sure what had happened but on a lovely straight road a car had crashed into a tree. We constantly saw bits of bumper littering the verges, it made us edgy and long for the smooth quiet roads of Spain with considerate drivers. We were relieved to arrive at Mel’s and relax for the evening with great company and great food.

Our final day of our 3-day trip arrived with temperatures struggling to get above freezing. As we only had 32 miles to go we decided on a later start, and though cold the sun was out and we had plenty of hills to keep us warm! The car drivers also seemed to be a different breed. Fewer of them, and they actually waited until safe to pass! What a difference it made!

We are now back in London, splitting our time between my two sisters, and the final few weeks of planning and preparation before we hit the road full-time again.
