Day 554
Christmas in PV
Hello, I’m a guest blogger - Liz, Debbie’s sister. My son Jed and I have flown out to meet Debs and Tom for a 2-week Christmas extravaganza. We arrived on the 19th into Puerto Vallarta and after a 68 hour wait at passport control (I told Tom bringing chains and sprockets for their bikes would raise a few eyebrows) we headed to our fabulous apartment in Zona Romantica. Bags got dumped, and off we raced for our first Margarita. Well, 13-year-old Jed had to settle for Pepsi, but we managed 4!
There is so much to do here, a fantastic location to walk around and close to some pretty fabulous places. First, we visited the Botanical Gardens, then swam in the river there (after sampling their Pina Coladas, Tequila and of course, more Pepsi…). Next day brought a hike up to the viewing tower, bringing not only phenomenal views but precipitating the need to run to the beach and dive into the sea (it’s hot work all that climbing). The following day we ventured to Mismaloya Beach and kayaked to Los Arcos, a National Marine Park, to snorkel for an hour before, yes, you’ve guessed it, sampling the local tequila! A highlight has been travelling to the southernmost cove of Bahia de Banderas, Yelapa, only accessible by water taxi, to snorkel, swim and hike up to the waterfall. The day was of course rounded off sunbathing on the beach sipping… I don’t even need to write it do I!
We’ve dined on street tacos, swam in our bijou pool every day, had massages on the beach, even walked 6 miles to the marina so Tom and Debs could buy their own snorkeling gear for when they hit Central America. We’ve only a few days left but have a sunrise whale watching treat tomorrow (I’ve told them they only need to look at me as I’ve eaten so many tacos, I’m virtually the size of one, but whale watching is on Debs’ bucket list so 6am start… bring it on!)
Can’t wait to see the New Year’s fireworks (whilst downing Tequila… come on… you know me by now!). We have been so lucky to spend this time with T and D (that’s Tequila and Daiquiri to you!) and are hoping to join them when they reach Cambodia in a couple of years’ time (what’s their national drink….???)
Mexico, you beauty!
