Day 59
Driftwood campfire
We had a lovely restful break at Sleepy Hollows campsite. We discovered the pub next door was run by the family of Clannad and Enya, the walls were lined with gold discs but unfortunately there was no live music. I had my first proper drink of Guinness and that was world class!
Still we had to carry on, the weather was damp, and at times the rain was quite heavy. Visibility was poor, so it was just a case of getting the miles done. As a treat we stopped at a coffee van, Fiffi's. Had a great coffee, free bottles of water and natter. Later that day, I received a lovely message from a Kurt Lohse, he is the dad of Philip who runs Fiffi's. A keen photographer himself, he was full of praise for our blog and photos. Really great to get a message like that out of the blue.
Today was all about the hills, definitely one of our hardest climbing days. With the roads being so narrow, traffic often has to wait for us, we always get a thumbs up or wave, after one short steep hill I got a well-deserved salute!
We had pushed on to get as many miles done as possible and all the major climbs, which left us dropping down to the beach looking for a wild camp spot. We found Salthill Bay, quiet, stunning, and a space above the beach to pitch our tent, someone had laid out a ring of stones so we had a driftwood fire, watched a black horse galloping in the sea, so restful and the rain held off! Bliss.
