Day 613
Up t’ bike shop
We tore ourselves away from our campsite. The lovely owner plied us with bananas fresh from the tree 20ft away. The sea called us to stay and swim again. Our camp spot was just begging us to doze and relax, but we had a wonderful wobbly coast ride to breeze along, tunnels to ride through, cafes to sit at and enjoy trying to spot whales frolicking in the sea. It was blisteringly hot, around 40 degrees, but as the hills were short, our mood was up, nothing was going to get us down. Well until we noticed Tom’s dreaded bottom bracket was getting really loose, again. We needed Wi-Fi, we needed to find yet another bike shop. We found one, located naturally all the way up yet another hill. To be fair there was only one hill, it just happened to be 13 miles long, up 3,000 feet and yes it was still 40 degrees.
We hate riding in cities, but needs must, and into the capital, San Salvador, rode the two cyclists, one with a wobbly bottom bracket. Flybikes produced a new bottom bracket, and play free, we were off. Another few miles through the nightmare (for a cyclist) that is San Salvador road system and back on with our trip. Nowhere to camp, our budget shrinking fast, we booked into the only hotel for miles. Those that have travelled in this area will understand when I say it’s an Auto/Love hotel. Wasted on us weary cyclists mind!
The next day, after over two weeks and two countries without a day off we booked two nights in an Airbnb. We are sat beneath an active volcano, which erupted just two months ago! Hopefully all will be calm whilst we are here. As usual on a day off it has been a busy one, bikes checked over, new parts ordered and paperwork updated. Our Airbnb host, Néstor, has been a star. Jobs done, it is now time to kick back and relax, for the remaining 2 hours of the day at least!
