Day 712
Horniman Museum
Yesterday we visited the Horniman Museum and Gardens in Forest Hill, London. This wonderful, and largely free, attraction is named after Frederick Horniman, a tea merchant and social reformer who collected an enormous range of fascinating artefacts from around the world. Despite the dubious environment of the 19th century tea trade, and the profiteering and collection of artefacts enabled by it, we enjoyed the insight into global cultures and communities. It was also very odd to see many animals we had seen for the first time in the wild during our cycle tour, stuffed and preserved in glass boxes. We definitely prefer to see them in the wild! As an added bonus there was a Lego dinosaur exhibition, much to Jed’s delight.
