Day 98

Outrider Jean-Marc

Jean-Marc offered to ride with us this morning. He knew of a quiet way to join the local Greenway, another disused railway line. So off we went, after a quick stop for our daily boulangerie visit, we were at the Greenway. It was too soon, but we had to say our goodbyes to another new friend and continue on.

The highlights of the ride were finally the arrival of fields of vines, and a ride over the Loire river, so vast and beautiful. The weather though was not so kind and gradually the few drops of rain turned to a downpour. Typical! There was no welcoming Warmshowers host for us tonight, but a small campsite with a simple field to pitch our tent. Wet and a bit miserable we arrived. We were warmly greeted, and were so happy to see a campers kitchen in a big barn. Shelter from the rain! There was even a kettle. I was so happy! Then quite simply it got better. After Tom pitched the tent, the owners came over, and unhappy that we would be wet and cold offered us the use of a caravan. So I am sat writing this in the lounge area of the caravan, warm and dry, about to cook tea inside on a hob, not the petrol stove outside in the rain. A short while ago they popped over with a warm freshly baked snack. The kindness of strangers just blows us away. We cannot thank them enough.
